On the mini it was because the keys are too close together (I used eight fingers) and on ipad 2….I’m not sure why but perhaps it is because of what you mentioned (no where to rest my wrists). The more I use the mini the easier the typing gets and the autocorrect helps quite a bit! – typed in landscape mode on my mini
