Today Apple released iOS 6.1, their latest software update. With it came the predictable and exciting “improvements” and “bug fixes”. In addition, there is now expanded LTE for supported carriers, and the added ability to purchase movie tickets through Siri in the US. Furthermore, if you are an iTunes Match subscriber, you can now download individual songs straight from iCloud–and for those of you still wanting more, there now exists a new button to reset the Advertising identifier!
To download the latest software update, go to settings–> general–> software update, except/agree with the terms and conditions and download and install the small 76.1MB update. Servers were getting hit hard earlier this afternoon, but I was able to download and install the update over the air in 10-15 minutes–though your mileage may vary.
Once the update is complete it will be verified, and you will see the iOS 6 splash screen where you are informed that although your device was updated successfully, there are a few more steps to follow to finish. At this point you can enter your Apple ID to finish setting up iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime. Boom–done!
The white elephant in the room, however, is far more interesting than bug fixes and reset buttons. Anyone who follows the jailbreak scene knows that the newly formed Evad3rs dev team made up of @pimskeks, @planetbeing, @pod2g & @MuscleNerd, have been waiting patiently for this day. They have been working on the coveted un-tethered jailbreak for iOS 6 that has eluded the masses since it’s introduction last summer. Recently, there has been a growing excitement that this might finally happen. Then, this interesting collection of tweets showed up on @MuscleNerd‘s Twitter feed today
All I can say is–I can’t wait for Super Bowl Sunday!
