I don’t work for Verizon, so I can’t say for sure. However, I know that it might not have been Verizon’s choice to leave the iPhone 5 unlocked. MacRumors points to a section of the FCC network access requirements that the carrier agreed to when it purchased the 700MHz spectrum that it’s using for LTE:

“(e) Handset locking prohibited. No licensee may disable features on handsets it provides to customers, to the extent such features are compliant with the licensee’s standards pursuant to paragraph (b) of this section, nor configure handsets it provides to prohibit use of such handsets on other providers’ networks.”

So, unlike Sprint, who issued a software update locking the iPhone 4S at a later date, the Verizon iPhone 5 looks like it will remain unlocked. But I would check with Verizon to be safe.

He actually referenced Super Bowl Sunday–today! The evad3rs group have also pointed out that, as much as we want this Jailbreak ASAP, they aren’t going to release it before it’s been properly tested for bugs. In addition, there can always be last minute problems that can arise, delaying the release. Fingers crossed, though, there is still plenty of time left today.
