While I patiently await the OOTP 14 beta, Out of the Park Developments has released the first batch of screenshots from its upcoming release. There isn’t anything groundbreaking in the screenshots, but they do provide some insight into a few of the changes to this year’s edition.
The new screen shown here is the graphical depth chart. This obviously is not a new feature, but is a great example of how the developers are meticulous in fine-tuning and sharpening up an already great product. Editing lineups is something most players spend a lot of time doing, so it makes sense to have a few different methods for gamers to go about accomplishing that task.
But the biggest thing for me on this screen shot, along with each of the other screen shots, is the cleaner looking text. I’m not sure whether this is a new font or if it’s simply been touched up a bit, but it looks nice and crisp – a big improvement over last year’s version, in my opinion. It makes sense to have the best possible looking text considering this is, you know, a text sim.
This screen shows off one of the features OOTP is touting this year, and that’s the way players enter your OOTP world. Here we see one of those five ways, and it happens to be brand new – International Amateur Free Agents. These players are typically 16 or 17 years old, and will demand a high signing bonus.
Here we see another new screen – the trade log. As with previous years, OOTP 14 promises an improved trading experience, highlighted by a trade log that tracks all league trades and lists the salaries, ratings, and prospect ratings for those involved.
As you can see, there isn’t anything earth shattering here. But I’m still very much looking forward to this release. The screens show the continued dedication of the OOTP team to keep improving this franchise.
OOTP 14 is currently available for preorder for $39.99. Anyone who preorders will receive the game three days prior to its official release date in April. For a full feature list and some additional screenshots, check out the press release.
