New iPhone this summer following updated iPads this spring [RUMOR]

Recent rumors by our friends at iMore have suggested that Apple will indeed release the next iteration of the iPhone this summer, possibly as soon as August.  Predicted to follow the same naming pattern used following the two most recent major hardware updates, the iPhone 5S is expected to be an identical twin to its iPhone 5 predecessor.

Nothing earth shattering in the way of major feature updates to the hardware are anticipated aside from a processor bump/upgrade and improvements to the camera(s).  However, all eyes are on Jonathan Ive and his impact on iOS 7.  We may still have to wait for his influence, though, until iOS 8 as Apple was most likely far down the developing road with iOS 7 prior to Ive being named the leader for Human Interface teams across Apple.

Apple and iPhone fans alike have grown accustomed to this release cycle over the last few years, but for me, I still cringe every time it is reinforced.  I completely understand why Apple has stuck to a hardware update every other year, as it makes complete financial sense.  They continue to ride the popularity of Apple’s flagship device, and the market has not forced them to alter their pattern–yet.

Customers keep buying iPhones.  Plain and simple.  Last quarter the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S were the top two best selling phones in the US.  Quite a remarkable feat considering the competition these days.  Samsung will undoubtably take the lead again in the second and possibly third quarters as their Galaxy series has become extremely popular and has challenged and even taunted Apple to meet their challenge.

In addition iMore has also learned that we may even see updates to the iPad line, including the iPad mini as early as next month.  This comes as a big surprise as the fourth generation iPad and the iPad mini were released only six months ago. There has been a growing number of iPad casing leaks which can be interpreted as a precursor to a soon-to-be released device update. Stay tuned!
