However, I still hear people talk about using “Scotch tape” all the time, no matter what actual brand they are referring to. That was my point. The name Scotch tape is ubiquitous in our culture, the same way Band-Aid is. It’s the same with Google Reader. It is synonymous with RSS.

Saying that Scotch makes adhesive tapes is like saying Big Mac makes hamburgers.
