OOTP 14 launches April 12 for pre-orders, new features announced

Out of the Park Developments recently announced some more details regarding its signature baseball sim, OOTP 14.  The official release date is April 15, but everyone who pre-orders the game will get it three days earlier on April 12.

They also announced a few new surprise features for this year’s version.  The biggest, in my opinion, is the addition of a free agent draft.  From the newsletter:

A Free Agent Draft can now be scheduled from the League Setup functions screen. It’s similar to the inaugural draft, but it doesn’t clear the team rosters and it assigns picked players adequate 1-year contracts. Such a draft is useful if, for example, you want to have contraction and draft the players released from the contracted teams. Or if you import several historical players into the FA pool and want the teams to draft them.

I’ve long wanted to experiment with shuffling and/or contracting teams, but never did so because of the absence of this particular feature.  My hope is that the drafts are customizable for order and contract length, but even if they’re not, this is a welcomed addition to the franchise.

OOTP 14 will also feature achievements, customizable fonts, and the ability to designate another team’s player as ‘not interested’ so teams stop bombarding you with offers for a player you don’t want..

This, of course, is in addition to all of the other previously announced features.  I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but if you love baseball and love text sims, I promise you’ll become obsessed with this game.

I’m very much looking forward to the release.  To the surprise of no one, I will post a full review after the game is released.
