You are entitled to your opinion–that’s fine. The iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5 were the top two selling smart phones last year, so there are plenty of consumers who don’t share your opinion. Why don’t you take this discussion over to the forums and start a thread. Let’s get some good dialogue going. Please do me a favor and refrain from the profanity, though.

I guess what I’m saying is Apple set the bar low for this operating system and unfortunately too many accepted this bar as immovable. When you see wishlists they’re always about tacking some “cool” feature on, rather than demanding the basics you would normally associate with an environment to manage your data.

I mean, who really thinks using a god-awful bloated and clunky music player to manage all your data is “post pc? Fuck Apple and may its ship continue to sink.

What about your rant has anything to do with this video?

Number one priority: enable a shared data, store that’s easy to copy to and from. One that can talk to external storage devices such as USB drives and cameras. Of course, that also means a file manager.

Number two priority: give up on iTunes as a file manager. Anyone who’s used it to add data to the Photos app or any third party media player will know what an abortion of a system it is.

Is that really too much to ask from such a mature OS?

Hint: Android and Windows RT can do it.

Over what–the particular ideas shared in the video?

Sure, I can see the animation being a little over-the-top. I’ve used the menu bar as a target point on some jailbreak tweaks, so it’s definitely doable as long as it doesn’t get cluttered with too many action targets. Don’t take it all too seriously. Sometimes there are eye-catching promos that draw attention to other work a designer might have going on. At the very least, it’s entertaining and it gets us looking forward to what Apple might have in store for iOS 7. Thanks for the comment!

Although using the menubar is helpful and might be easy to use with a mouse, it’d be impossible to hit such a small point with your finger, they would have to increase the size of the menubar’s height to 44px, which would be just look ugly.

All that to say the only thing I think could actually be implemented well, without getting people dizzy or frustrated with such a small point is the drop down notifications. But even that would be frustrating, if I’m looking at the notifications, odds are I need to be able to react to them and other than giving me the option to pick which email / message I want to open, I still have to launch the application.

So many of these concepts are made by people who have a great idea but aren’t able to actually use them with their fingers in the real world day to day. I looks really cool but would be just as pointless the current red notification symbol.

You’re probably right, but it’s still fun to see what people can come up with. Like you said, we could still see something like this in a jailbreak version one day 🙂
