AirDrop file sharing could come to iOS 7

A lot of talk in the lead up to WWDC has been focused on the aesthetic changes that could be in store for iOS 7, but little focus has been on what new features Apple might introduce. According to the latest rumors, the company has been testing AirDrop file sharing for their mobile platform and it could debut at next week’s developer conference.

AirDrop, currently available to OS X users, is a quick and easy way to share files between Macs over a wireless connection. As part of iOS it would allow users to push files from iPhone to iPhone (or iPad) as part of the Share menu. iPhone-to-Mac sharing is also a possibility, though it might not come in the initial release.

Or AirDrop might not come as part of iOS 7 at all. This isn’t the first time Apple has reportedly been testing AirDrop support for the mobile devices, and they have dropped the feature from iOS builds in the past. But it could finally debut as part of what is said to be one of the biggest overhaul to the operating system to date, which will also feature a new “flat” design.

Our curiosity will be satisfied come next week.
