Apple tops all other smartphone manufacturers in the US

According to the latest report from comScore, Apple remains the top smartphone hardware manufacturer in the US, growing to hold 39.2 percent of the market as of the end of April. The figure represents a change of 1.4 percent, up from 37.8 percent in January of this year.

Trailing Apple is Samsung, though there is a fairly wide margin between Cupertino and their biggest contender. The maker of the Galaxy line of smartphones holds a 22 percent share of the market. Rounding out the top five are HTC, Motorola, and LG.

Despite taking the title of top smartphone OEM, Apple’s iOS still trails Google’s Android in terms of total platform market share. The past several months, however, have seen Android’s lead decrease as Apple continue to pick up ground. Google’s mobile OS has dropped to 52 percent, down a slim 0.3 percent since January 2013.

Android took its biggest slice of the pie in October of 2012 when it rose to a 53.6 percent share of the US smartphone market. Apple sat at 34.3 percent for the same period. The trend is quite obviously moving in the iPhone maker’s favor.
