While the overhaul to iOS 7 has been all the talk leading up to WWDC, Apple also took the opportunity to unveil a few changes headed to Max OS X. In the update to OS X, dubbed Mavericks, desktop users can expect a series of new features that make the operating system even friendlier to the power user, including tabbed browsing in Finder, tagging for files, and advanced multi-display support. Apple also took the opportunity to introduce a new version of their Safari web browser.
Tabbed browsing in Finder will allows users to cut down on screen clutter and manage their files even more cleanly. A new full-screen mode makes finding documents and applications easier than ever. The addition of tags collates related files for easy access in Finder, quick recall, and enhanced search capabilities.

Enhanced multi-display support received a warm welcome during the WWDC keynote, and for good reason. In OS X Mavericks, multiple displays can be linked to create a nearly limitless workspace. Using AirPlay streaming with an Apple TV, any television can be turned into an additional display.
Those are the key features, but there is much more under the hood to please the power user, including App Nap for power saving and accelerated scrolling. Many of the deeper refinements are geared toward saving battery life.
Another major update concerns Safari, which sees a number of improvements focused on performance and usability. You can expect smoother scrolling, a revamped Reader, and a new scrollable sidebar that provides quick access to bookmarks, reading lists, and even links share via social feeds. There’s also an improved Calendar, a new Maps app that will sync directly with the iPhone, oh, and iBooks, too.
Speaking of sync, notifications from your iOS device can now be directed to your Mac in one of the coolest features announced at the show. It’s almost too much to wrap ones head around. We’re still being treated to demos of the new OS update as I type but we’ll be breaking down new feature further throughout the day, so stay tuned.
