Apple has begun seeding the latest update to Mac OS X, 10.9 Mavericks, to developers. Though the new version of the company’s desktop software isn’t quite ready for primetime just yet, many will be wondering if their Macs will be compatible when it does launch for the general public. The answer? Chances are if you bought your current machine in the past five years, yes.
Here’s the break down:
- MacBook (aluminum) 13-inch, 2008 or later
- MacBook Pro 13-inch, mid-2009 or later
- MacBook Pro 15-inch, late 2007 or later
- MacBook Pro 17-inch, late 2007 or later
- MacBook Air, late 2008 or later
- iMac, mid-2007 or later
- Mac mini, early 2009 or later
- Mac Pro, early 2009 or later
The basic operating requirements include 2GB of RAM and 8GB of free storage space, which should be standard for most of the models listed above. In order to upgrade to OS X Mavericks, the computer will need to be running at least OS X 10.6.7 Snow Leopard.
