With the mystery of iOS 7 gradually fading, attention can now turn squarely toward rumors of Apple’s future iPhone roadmap. A new report from Reuters indicates that sources close to the matter claim that Apple is still debating the merits of a low-cost iPhone while looking ahead to 5.7-inch (and possibly 4.7-inch) models.

The budget-priced iPhone is nothing new, in terms of speculation. For the past few cycles leading up to the launch of a new Apple handset, rumors have persisted that the company would introduce a second iPhone that would use plastic as the main construction material and offer buyers a rainbow of color choices (much like the iPod line). This time around the talk has been a bit more serious, and sources close to the matter say Apple could launch a $100 iPhone alongside the iPhone 5S.

More interesting is word that Apple could be looking to diversify the iPhone range even further in the coming years. The Cupertino-based company could introduce not one but two bigger iPhones in 2014 as the mull the possibility of a 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch handset. The idea that this could happen is in stark contrast to Apple’s typical approach, launching one device per year.

It also would further fragment the iPhone and iPad lineup, something Apple has wished to avoid for some time now. But with growing consumer demand for devices like the 5-inch Samsung Galaxy S4 and and 4.7-inch HTC One, their hand might have been forced. Still, we’ll believe it when we see it.
