Vine drops in App Store rankings after Instagram video debut

BGR has compiled an interesting look at Vine’s App Store rankings in the days following the announcement of video for Instagram, and things aren’t looking so great for the Twitter-owned app. As of Sunday, Vine was ranked seventh on the US top free download chart, down from second just prior to Instagram unveiling competing video features.

It marks the first time that Vine has been out of the top five in close to three months, and it isn’t an isolated incident. The app dropped out of the top ten in 23 countries since last Thursday, including the UK.

So has Instagram stolen Vine’s thunder? The early data suggests this is at least partially the case, but it’s far too early too tell if Mark Zuckerberg and crew have defeated Twitter’s video sharing startup in one fell swoop. The folks at Vine have to be feeling might nervous, nonetheless.
