Launching and app in Apple’s App Store can be a profitable enterprise, but just how much does an app gracing the top charts earn? Distimo did the research and found that, on average, apps ranking in the top 10 paid earn around $47K per day. Talk about some serious cash.
Of course, not every app can be so successful. Still, if one manages to find its way into the top 50 its developers will still see dollar signs every time they close their eyes. On average, those apps earn about $12K per day. This amounts to about 950 downloads per day.
Compare those numbers to free apps, which typically pull in about 23K downloads per day to reach the top 50 free apps. 70K downloads per day should be enough to earn a spot in the top 10 (compared to around 4K per day for paid apps).
Cue all those yearning to get rich quick to start devising the next great iPhone app. Alas, reaching the top charts is far from as easy a task as it sounds.
