Recently, word surfaced that Apple would sever ties with Samsung as a chip provider and sign a long-term deal with Taiwan Semiconducter Manufacturing Company for the iPhone 6 and beyond. It now appears this won’t be the case, as a new report claims Apple will shift back to Samsung starting in 2015.
Korea Economic Daily claims unnamed sources have confirmed that Apple will source Samsung for fabrication of their A9 processor, which will use a 14nm process. It’s unclear why the switch to TSMC will be temporary, but many factors could contribute (such as Samsung countering with a better deal for Apple).
