Apple can’t quit Samsung, will source future chips from rival

Recently, word surfaced that Apple would sever ties with Samsung as a chip provider and sign a long-term deal with Taiwan Semiconducter Manufacturing Company for the iPhone 6 and beyond. It now appears this won’t be the case, as a new report claims Apple will shift back to Samsung starting in 2015.

Korea Economic Daily¬†claims unnamed sources have confirmed that Apple will source Samsung for fabrication of their A9 processor, which will use a 14nm process. It’s unclear why the switch to TSMC will be temporary, but many factors could contribute (such as Samsung countering with a better deal for Apple).
