Another day, another plastic shell iPhone leak. This one proves particularly useful, as we get our first look at the low-cost model in comparison to just about every iPhone model that has existed to date (as well as the 5th-gen iPod Touch). We also get perhaps our clearest, most in-depth look at the various design aspects of the new phone.
Just based on the comparison with the iPhone 5, we definitely see where Apple has cut back on costs. There are fewer fine details, things that won’t affect performance but definitely take away from a premium feel. A detail we are noticing for the first time: a slightly thinner font for the iPhone logo (matching the new iOS 7 aesthetic). We expect that change to carry over to the iPhone 5S as well.
The only questions that remain about the plastic iPhone are how it will differ internally from the iPhone 5S and just what the final pricing will be. Michael Kukielka, responsible for the above video, speculates Apple will offer it as the lowest priced of a three-tier approach including the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5.
