Disney today has announced two mobile extensions of their Disney Infinity franchise. Disney Infinity: Action! and Disney Infinity: Toy Box look to “provide unprecedented connected extensions of the console experience.” For the unfamiliar, let’s rewind a second.
Disney Infinity is a new console sandbox platformer that uses collectible figurines to unlock new worlds, gameplay, and challenges. Essentially, each $13 figurine you purchase has the ability to add a whole new gaming experience when plugged into the game’s Infinity Base, coupled with world discs and power discs. It’s sort of like augmented reality, but not really.
What is a lot more like augmented reality is Disney Infinity: Action!. The Game will be available for iPhone and iPad starting tomorrow and allows users to create movies that feature animated characters from the Infinity franchise alongside friends and family, as well as animated props. These creations can then be shared to YouTube and social networks.
Disney Infinity: Toy Box is identical to the game mode found on console versions. Toy Box allows players to create new worlds using a variety of items and props. Creations can be transferred between console and iPoad, and players can pick right up where they left off. This open world, sandbox mode gives players the ability to build their own games from scratch.
Disney Infinity: Action! will be available tomorrow, August 15th. Disney Infinity: Toy Box will come in a few weeks as a free download for the iPad. Stay tuned as we’ll be bringing you a hands-on look later in the week.
