One of the marquee selling points of the iPhone 5S will be its speed. The phone is expected to be faster than its predecessor and will likely be touted as the fastest iPhone yet — and it will be. But just how fast? According to Clayton Morris of Fox News, the A7 CPU featured in the iPhone 5S will clock in at 31 percent faster than the current generation’s A6.

While the speed bump is a given, it’s the A7 we are interested in. Some speculation suggested that Apple might go with an improved A6 (perhaps the A6X) in the next-gen iPhone, not making the jump to A7 quite yet. Hardware leaks, however, seemed to confirm the new CPU.

While 31 percent performance increase would be noticeable, it wouldn’t quite be the same as the jump from A5 to A6, which Apple claimed was nearly twice as fast. We’ll know exactly how Apple plans to spin it come September 10th, when the iPhone 5S is rumored to see its grand unveiling.
