If you asked someone to name a software product that millions of people use everyday despite still being considered in beta, most would probably point to one of Google’s many services. I bet many don’t even realize that Apple’s Siri has carried a beta tag since it was first introduced in 2011. That will change this week when iOS 7 launches to the masses.
On September 18th, the world at large will be introduced to iOS 7 as a free upgrade. For those that haven’t been following Apple’s recent announcements, the change will likely come as a huge shock. But aside from the major shift in aesthetics, Apple has put a lot of work into improving Siri in the latest update to their mobile platform.
Siri users now have the option to choose between a male or female voice for their digital personal assistant, and the platform can handle a larger selection of commands smoothly and intuitively. With these tweaks Apple has quietly removed mention of Siri’s beta status from their website, as noted by 9to5Mac.
Even without its beta tag, Apple is by no means finished with Siri. They will need to continue to push the boundaries of voice interactions to stay ahead of a growing field of products and services that seek to one-up Apple’s offering. Bringing a refined Siri to iOS 7 is just the beginning.
