With the launch of iOS 7 on September 18th, a lot will change for iPhone and iPad users. For those with oder devices, it could mean the end of the line in terms of app compatibility. No worries, though. Apple has tweaked the App Store to now offer the “last compatible” version of an app when attempting to download on a “legacy” device.
When using an older device like the iPhone 3GS with an older version of iOS, attempting to download an app that is no longer compatible will hit users with a prompt asking if they wish to download an older, working version instead. It’s like an App Store time machine, which of course means these “last compatible” versions will likely be a bit outdated.
The point, though, is that they will work. So if don’t count yourself among the many that will upgrade to a new iPhone this week, or if you don’t own a device that will see iOS 7, legacy apps could be the only way to enjoy certain services moving forward.
