I’m usually more of a preorder than a lineup guy, so I find myself in unfamiliar territory this morning. If I wasn’t going to be on the road all week, I’m sure I would have settled for the 2 AM Central time online preorder and 2 to 3 day free shipping. But, with my coming travels over the next two weeks, I decided to get in line at the Saddle Creek Apple Store in Germantown, TN.
I arrived at a little after 3 AM, which is MUCH earlier than I had anticipated. I got back in town from a work trip to Nashville late, so it made sense to just head on over. I’m glad that I did, because the line was already up to 50 when I arrived.
I can’t say it hasn’t been fun, though. I ran into an old friend from school who I haven’t seen in many years. I saw someone who goes to church with me. A local television crew even showed up and did a live spot around 6 AM. I guess I have Apple Guy stamped on me somewhere, because they picked me for a spot interview. I was definitely not expecting that!
Time to go. The Apple Store employees will be passing out cards that represent the different phone models shortly. I’ll report back later, and let you know if was able to get the 32 GB Gold iPhone 5S on AT&T that I came here for.
Update: I did not get the gold model I was looking for. Or the silver, which was my second choice. They ran out quickly. Space gray it is.
Update 2: And here it is. The Space Gray 32 GB iPhone 5S in all its just unboxed, unused glory. Now it’s time to go home and sleep while it does the obligatory iCloud Restore.
