Only a day after it was discovered that Apple was allowing customers to check availability and reserve a new iPhone for in-store pickup, the company’s online storefront no longer offers the option. Instead, those browsing for an iPhone 5S online will need to actually visit their local Apple Store if they wish to get the phone the same day.
The problem is finding available stock means most buyers will likely be waiting a few weeks, anyway, which could be the reason Apple has stripped the ability to reserve a handset for in-store pick from iPhone 5S purchases. As stock evens out, we suspect Apple will once again allows customers to choose local pickup as a buying option, but with wait times for most models pushed well into October, it could be a while.
