Japanese inventor Norihiko Saito has triumphed over Apple in a patent suit that dates back over five years. The Tokyo District Court assessed damages to the tune of 300 million yen ($3.3 million) after ruling that Apple infringed on Saito’s click wheel design with various iPod models.
Saito initially sought damages in excess of 10 billion yen ($101 million), but it seems the court disagreed on at least this point. It’s a rare case where Apple, known for reaping the rewards of the intellectual property, came out on the wrong end of a patent dispute.
