Ex-Apple-employee-turned-blogger Jamie Ryan sees a need to begin differentiating the iPad from its mini counterpart, and he thinks Apple might already have the solution. According to Ryan, Cupertino has been testing a number of keyboard covers for the larger member of the company’s tablet stable.
The Microsoft Surface-esque designs would help position the 9.7-inch iPad as a professional model for those planning to get the most out of the slate’s productivity apps and tools. This would leave the iPad Mini to continue to appease the mass market looking for an all-in-one media and entertainment device.
Though the Mini got off to a bit of a slow start, its appeal has grown tremendously, offering a powerful, portable tablet that has drawn some buyers away from Apple’s full-sized offering. Apple is set to unveil a trimmed down, redesigned 9.7-inch tablet at a media event on October 22nd. Will this include the introduction of a Bluetooth 4.0-powered keyboard case?
Ryan stresses that an Apple prototype does not guarantee a final product that will reach the mass market. Large companies are constantly tossing around ideas and prototypes, many of which never see the light of day. An Apple-designed keyboard cover would certainly be a welcome addition, either way.
