While Apple’s iPhone 5S boasts a battery larger than its predecessors, not every new owner has been pleased with the handset’s performance in that area. While less-than-stellar battery life for some 5S owners has been chalked up to a power-intensive processor, issues with iOS 7, and more, Apple has now come forward to the New York Times admitting that a manufacturing defect is the root cause.
Apple is offering to replace any affected handsets, which include those that seem to be taking longer than normal to charge or experiencing less than stellar battery life. While the company claims the number of affected iPhone 5S users is small, they have not provided any specifics.
In our testing and review, we noted that the battery life of the iPhone 5S, while not mind blowing, was on par or slightly better than the iPhone 5. While the lack of noticeable improvement is slightly disappointing, it does not take away from out overall high rating of the handset.
