More and more apps are slowly taking advantage of the promise that is Apple’s M7 coprocessor. Apple claims the secondary chip will make calculations based on the phone’s several motion sensors both more robust and efficient. A main advantage is being able to track motion data in the background without putting a huge strain on battery life, as demonstrated by the recently release Nike+ Move app. Now the capability has come to popular fitness tracking app RunKeeper.
The feature is called Pocket Track, and can be enabled to allow RunKeep to track your walking activity throughout the day. When the app detects the user having walked for 15 minute or more, that activity is recorded. Users can add the results to their daily log. The M7 will also make it possible to log the number of steps taken during a run to produce an overview of a user’s cadence.
Since the new features rely on the M7, they remain exclusive to iPhone 5S users for now. If that’s you, head over to the App Store and grab the latest update now.
