The iPad mini with Retina display is now available for purchase on the Apple online store. We first heard last night that the Retina iPad mini was going on sale on November 12th in 7 countries including the United States, but approached the leak with measured skepticism considering Apple’s typical time table of releasing iOS products on a Friday. However, despite the fact that it was already November 12th in some of the initial release countries at the time the rumor was discovered, the Retina iPad mini still went on sale in the Apple Store in said countries before the close of business.
Availability and shipping times are still good considering the lateness of the hour the Retina iPad mini went on sale here in the US. 16GB and 32 GB Wi-Fi models of both Space Gray and Silver are available to ship within 1-3 business days at the time of this posting. In addition, 64GB and 128GB models are currently shipping in 5-10 business days.
It is unclear at this time why Apple didn’t provided any pre-release announcement informing the public when the Retina iPad mini would go on sale. However, it has been widely speculated that perhaps this was in response to the rumored LCD panel supply constraints that we heard about back in October that will make the 4th quarter “ridiculously tight” in terms of the Retina iPad mini’s availability. We’ll see–stay tuned for updates as we are made aware of them.
