The PlayStation 4 launches later this week, but eager gamers have been getting tease after tease in the lead up to Sony’s latest console. First, buyers were able to get their hands on the latest DualShock controller weeks in advance. Then games began arriving earlier this week. Now Sony has launched the official PlayStation app for iOS and Android.
The app allows users to tap into the PlayStation network using their existing or new account. Users can send, read, and respond to messages as well as purchase games directly from their smartphones. Downloads will be pushed directly to the PS4 console. The app also features alerts and notifications for friends and achievements.
Perhaps the niftiest feature of the PlayStation App, however, is the ability to use it to remotely interact with aspects of the PS4. The app turns your smartphone into a keypad for the console and can also act as a second screen to provide a unique experience for games that support the functionality.
