For many that have ordered an iPad mini with Retina display, a shipment has yet to arrive. Some haven’t even received a shipment notice. Those inquiring about the matter via telephone, however, have been given a little something extra to hold them over. To assuage customer impatience, Apple is offering a free Smart Cover or Smart Case to buyers.
The free swag appears to be available for customers who purchased a Retina iPad mini with cellular data, the version of the device that has seen the most major delays. WiFi-only models have been easier to come by; it’s unclear if customers still awaiting shipment notification on that model can score a free case or cover, as well.
Free or not, we see the Smart Cover as a good buy to accompany any new iPad (per our full review). We’ll have a closer look at the iPad mini with Retina display coming later this week.
