Carriers facing low supply of iPad mini with Retina display

Retina-iPad-mini

A week after its low-key rollout, wireless carriers are feeling the strain of Apple’s iPad mini with Retina display supply constraints. Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T still do not have the tablet available for purchase in store, and shipping dates for online orders continue to slip.

At current time, those wishing to purchase a Retina iPad mini with cellular data from Verizon won’t see the device ship until December 2nd. T-Mobile is promising that their 3G/4G models will ship in six to eight weeks. AT&T says orders are backlogged for 21-28 days.

Apple’s site remains the best bet for those searching out the elusive new iPad mini. Shipping for cellular-enabled models purchased direct now shows as five to ten days. For the WiFi-only version of the Retina mini, buyers should only have to wait one to three days for their device to ship (and in many cases, same day in-store pickup is a delivery option).

Earlier this week we learned that Apple has been offering free Smart Covers to buyers eager to find out when their iPad mini with Retina display will ship. Whether or not the offer still applies to those purchasing the tablet after launch day isn’t clear, but those still waiting for an Apple Store purchase to arrive might want to try giving Apple a call anyway.
