Initially arriving almost 20 years after the release of Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, its sequel, has been remade for iOS. RPG fans can download the 3D overhaul now for the not-so-low price of $15.99.
The After Years was first released in 2008 as a 2D followup to 1991’s original Final Fantasy IV. The game was first available for mobile devices in Japan before being ported to the Nintendo Wii a year later. It follows many of the same characters introduced in the first installment as well as introduces new faces and places. The game’s iOS release is complete remake of the original utilizing 3D graphics.
Next up on Square Enix’s agenda is Final Fantasy VI, which is slated to arrive on iOS devices this winter. As for perennial fan favorite Final Fantasy VII, Square Enix has no firm plans at this time, but the success of current ports will weigh into their decision. In other words, if you’re holding out hope for Cloud Strife and crew’s arrival on the iPhone, a download of the development house’s latest mobile release could help nudge that release along.
