Google is developing a set of tools that could soon allow developers to easily port apps built for the desktop Chrome browser to its mobile equivalent. The tech giant first made the plan known last September; a beta program could be in place as early as January.
A dedicated team of Googlers has been working with the open source Apache Cordova platform to recreate certain desktop Chrome APIs for the mobile environment. Google hopes to eventually provide Chrome apps for mobile as downloads from the iOS App Store, but that aspect of the project will come a bit farther down the road.
If you have a bit of a technical bone you might find interest in following the project over at GitHub, where Google isn’t exactly being shy about their progress.
