Spotify shuffles things up with new free mobile offering

Spotify had some announcements today regarding their mobile apps, introducing free ad-supported streaming to tablets along with a new model that gives nonpaying mobile users greater control over what they are listening to. So what’s the catch?

Free users will have no choice but to listen in shuffle mode. Users can access a specific artist or saved playlist, though it won’t be possible to listen to an entire album (or playlist) from start to finish in its intended order. That’s sort of a bummer, but it’s free (and a lot more control than competitors like Pandora offer). So what is there to complain about? If you want total control, buck up and pay the $10/month for  premium subscription.
