Google Maps has received a small update for iOS that enables some Google Now-eque features for the mapping and navigation service. When logging into your Google account, flight, hotel, and restaurant reservation info skimmed from Gmail will display at the appropriate location.
The functionality isn’t altogether new, having been available on other platforms prior to today’s update, but it adds another layer for users and applies further pressure to Apple. Though the gap is quickly closing, the default Maps service in iOS seems to always remain a step behind Google’s alternative. Apple has invested plenty of time and money into their own project, with the latest whispers saying their acquisition of PrimeSense could be a move to improve indoor mapping.
Aside from reservation and booking info, the latest update to Google Maps includes a smattering of bug fixes. The new version can be downloaded now for free from the App Store.
