Apple should be pleased with the direction they are heading in China. After launching the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c in the country, Apple’s smartphone market share more than doubled, growing to 12 percent by the end of October after sitting at 5 percent the month prior.

Apple’s share in China has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. The iPhone previously accounted for 9 percent of mobile devices in 2012 but dropped off due to increased competition from low-cost Android handsets.
The number should grow even higher by year’s end after the iPhone launches on China Mobile — the nation’s (and the the world’s) largest wireless provider. There is mixed opinion about how much of a boost Apple can expect, but it could be enough to leapfrog the Lenovo for the number two spot behind Huawei. China Mobile begins iPhone pre-orders today.
