Apple gives deadline for iOS app optimization

iOS 7

Apple is giving developers until February 1st of next year to get their apps up to date with the latest iOS 7 design standards. The news comes by way of a quick post to Apple’s developer site entitled “Make Your Apps Work Seamlessly with iOS 7. Given the mandate, that sounds more like a directive.

As has been cover to almost no end by now, iOS 7 brought about the most major redesign to Apple’s mobile platform since its inception, moving toward a simpler, cleaner design. Many developers have already brought their wares inline with the latest design standards — set forth in Apple’s iOS Human Interface Guidelines — but Apple is pushing the rest to follow suit.

Compliance requires not only for apps to adhere to the latest design guidelines, but also to be built using the latest version of Xcode 5. Apps already uploaded to the App Store are exempt, but updates deliver after the date in 2014 will be held to the same standards.
