The long-anticipated update to the Mac Pro is now available for sale, but for interested buyers that didn’t jump early the wait is just beginning. At the time of writing, the shipping date of the high-octane desktop workstation has slipped to February for orders from Apple’s site.
Available for purchase are the $2999 base model featuring a 3.7GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor and 12GB RAM as well as a $3999 option sporting a 3.5GHz six-core CPU and 16GB RAM. Both models can be fully configured to spec with up to 12-cores of processing power and 64GB RAM.
To go along with the release of the Mac Pro, Apple is updating its pro-grade applications including Final Cut Pro, which has been optimized for the tower’s dual-GPU setup in version 10.1. 4K support and a selection of 4K content including titles and transitions are also included in the update. Final Cut Pro’s video editing suite starts at $299, but the update should be available as a free download for current users.
