Apple’s new Arizona factory will focus on iPhone/iPod component production

An Apple manufacturing plant slated to open in Mesa, Arizona could be home to iPhone and iPod component production, among other things, according to a new job listing for a Manufacturing Design Engineer. Previous information revealed that the facility would be involved in the processing of sapphire crystal parts for use in Apple’s mobile products, but the new job listing suggests that will not be all.

The job qualifications call for an engineer proficient in CNC machining, manufacturing automation, and surface finishing along with glass processing. The position also calls for someone to work closely with Apple’s lead design teams in order to shape and tailor production processes for iPhone and iPod devices.

The job listing follows calls for Mechanical Supplier Quality Engineers. Apple’s factory is expected to bring 700 new jobs to the Mesa area.
