With the iPhone’s launch on China Mobile only days away, CEO Tim Cook spoke out on the newly forged partnership between Apple and the world’s largest mobile carrier. Cook said he is “incredibly optimistic” about where the relationship could take Apple.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c began last month for China Mobile and recent reports indicate that shipments out of Foxconn headed to the carrier have topped 1.4 million. China Mobile’s chairman Xi Guohua confirmed iPhone orders have crossed into the “multi-millions” (a recent figure put the number more accurately at 1.2 million).

As is typical of Apple, exact sales figures have not yet been divulged and likely won’t be for some time. Analysts expect availability on China Mobile to boost iPhone sales this year by 10 to 30 million, and Cook echoed the possibility pointing to the many new markets the new carrier deal will bring the iPhone to.

Growing Apple’s footprint in China has been a top priority of Cook since taking over CEO duties. The iPhone’s China Mobile launch represents a major milestone, rounding out availability on China’s top three mobile carriers. Hurdles still remain, including poor 4G (and even 3G) adoption throughout China, but this doesn’t look to slow down another monster release for Apple.
