If you have been holding out on investing in one of several new gaming controllers for the iPhone to hit the market in recent months, now is as good a time as ever. After debuting for $100, the Logitech PowerShell has seen a price drop to a very reasonable $69.99.
Considering what you get, which includes 1500mAh battery that can be used to juice up your phone on the go, the PowerShell’s new price is more than justified. Most portable charges of that magnitude cost at least $50, and they don’t even add gaming controls.
Admittedly, the PowerShell’s button configuration seems to target gamers on the more casual side (it lacks analog sticks and keeps a 16-bit era configuration). Other new iOS gaming controllers released after Apple introduced new APIs in iOS do feature slightly more robust setups. Still, we found the PowerShell to be quite appealing (see more in our hands-on video from CES below).
The price drop comes at a time when other companies have begun to drop the price of their iOS gaming controllers, including the SteelSeries Stratus wireless controller, which saw it’s price drop from $100 to $80. Does it mean game controllers have no chance at success on iOS? Perhaps the market for the newly introduced product segment is merely leveling out.
