The Woz thinks there should be an iPhone running Android, do you?

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak had an interesting proposition for Apple, speaking at the Apps World North America conference. The Woz, an all around tech enthusiast who uses both iOS and Android devices, thinks a marriage between Apple and Google could be a perfect opportunity.

It is Wozniak’s thinking that given the choice between your typical Android device and one built to the same standard as the iPhone, users would find appeal in Apple’s device over the competition. It would provide Apple a channel to compete more directly with Android manufacturers while still retaining their iOS stronghold.

To be clear, Wozniak, who continually talked in terms of ‘we’ when referencing Apple despite not working for the company for some time, does not believe Cupertino must adopt this strategy or perish. It is merely the musing of an often eccentric tech advocate with little stake or voice in the matter. We have mixed feelings about an iPhone running Android ourselves, but we are interested to hear your thoughts and opinions. Sound off in the poll and comments below!

That would be awesome… but there’s no way Apple would ever do it. They might sell a lot more phones but they’d also lose a TON of iPhone users to Android-based iPhone users. That means more money circulating through the Google Play Store instead of App Store, more developers interested in Android instead of Apple, and more momentum for the platform.

I doubt this will ever happen. But then again, Nokia might come out with an Android phone and nobody would have guessed that 10 years ago. Similar things could be said for Blackberry and Palm.

    I would definitely buy one.

No. There are plenty of Android phones already on the market. No need for Apple to get into that arena when they already have an excellent product. Besides, Apple making an Android phone would be seen as them doubting the future of iOS… it would undermine there current iPhone strategy. Don’t get me wrong… I love my Android phone. I just don’t see how making an Android phone would be a win for Apple.
