It took Apple long enough to get the Beatles on board with the iTunes ecosystem, but ever since the partnership has resulted in a number of exclusives and special content. As Beatlemaniacs celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Fab Four’s American debut, Apple has launched a new Apple TV channel in honor of the event.

The channel provides Apple TV users with the ability to watch the Beatles’ first ever American performance, which occurred on the Ed Sullivan show on February 9th, 1964. The channel also provides links to the group’s body of work as it appears on iTunes.

The Beatles were a long holdout from iTunes, with remaining members and their record labels abstaining from releasing their digitized discography through Apple. Part of the issue stemmed from disagreements between the Beatles-owned Apple Corps record label and the Cupertino-based company behind the iTunes music store. A number of lawsuits had been filed throughout the years, the latest being as recent as 2006.

The two were eventually able to put their differences aside, leading not only to the debut of the Beatles’ full catalog on Apple’s music store but also to a number a of exclusive releases, including a set of ring tones and a rare tracks collection that launched last December.

The 50th anniversary Beatles channel will only be around for a limited time, so, if you have yet to experience the historic debut American performance, now is your chance.
