Afraid someone is snooping around on your phone? Catch them with this app

Are you gripped with paranoia every time you leave your phone unattended in the company of friends (or strangers)? First of all, why are you leaving your phone unattended in public places? Second, ease your mind a bit with Catchr, a new counterintelligence app that tracks exactly what happens on your phone while you are away.

Once installed and configured, the app will track if your phone has been moved (even plotting those movements on a map) and also tell you what applications have been opened and closed. For best results, the app’s developers recommend closing all open apps before launching Catchr.

Of course, Catchr can’t identify exactly who touched your phone if it occurs in a group setting. Perhaps they will implement a covert front-facing camera snapshot feature that could catch the snooping somebody’s mug in the act. As the app’s description suggests, “it can also be a helpful tool in figuring out which of your friends you can trust, or if your significant other is a bit nosy or not.”

Catchr does have a few limitations as per the rules of the App Store, including that it won’t be able to note when certain Apple apps are accessed. These include Mail and the Phone app, two items that might be of particular interest to the prying eyes of some (especially that significant other Catchr mentions).

Catchr normally sells for $2.99 in the App Store, but as a special introductory offer it is currently on sale for $1.99. For some, that’s a small price to pay for peace of mind. Cheaper still? Using a passcode (or Touch ID, in the case of the iPhone 5s).
