While VSCO Cam’s Grid has offered users a way to share their photo masterpieces since last summer, the darkroom and imaging app has taken a step toward becoming more social in its latest update. Now in version 3.0, VSCO Cam + VSCO Grid adds a number of improvements, not the least of which is the ability to easily follow friends and fellow photographers.
The app fully integrates VSCO Cam with the VSCO Grid publishing platform, allowing users to find and follow others and curate a personalized photo stream. The folks at VSCO want the feature to act more as a gallery than a social network, forgoing the ability to “like” and comment on images and focusing strictly on the content.
The update also brings a few updated tools to VSCO Cam, including a Tilt & Level overlay to help line up the perfect shot as well as the ability to zoom in one image details in library mode using pinch gestures. The crop tool has also been improved, and users can now choose to automatically save edited images to their iPhone’s Camera Roll.
The update again improves the power of what many consider the best photo editing app available for iPhone. It’s most definitely a central part of any mobile photographers tool kit. Some might be hesitant to embrace new social features, but VSCO isn’t attempting to shift toward becoming a primarily social platform. You still can easily share your finished masterpieces to other networks like Instagram to satisfy those needs.
