It seemed a bit too good from the jump. A series of leaks surfacing yesterday purported to show a very complete version of the iPhone 6. Turns out those leaks were renders, and those renders originated anywhere but from within Apple’s walls. Jokes on us, right?
The leaks gained traction after Sonny Dickson, an industry observer (really just a kid) based in Australia who managed to obtain several very real iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c parts leaks out of China prior to the launch of those handsets, shared the images via his Twitter account. While many first believed the leak was again the result of his supply chain connections, the real source was another anonymous Twitter account. Since then, the photos have been confirmed as the work of Martin Hajek (you might remember him from his iWatch concept).
Fake or not, Hajek’s design caught our attention for all the right reasons, merging the many swirling rumors about the iPhone 6 into a composite render of a phone that we would run out and buy right now. We see a slimmer, seemingly larger handset with edge-to-edge display and reduced bezels (and Touch ID, of course). It’s as though the aesthetics of the iPad Air were applied to a larger version of the iPhone 5s.
Is the phone we see represented here any indication of what the real iPhone 6 could look like? We have no idea. But if Apple is still looking for some tips on finalizing the design of the handset they could do worse than give Hajek a call.
