A new bust of Steve Jobs will soon take up residence at Apple’s Cupertino campus. The unveiling of the piece created by Serbian artist Dragan Radenovic just so happened to coincide with what would have been the late Jobs’ 59th birthday this week.

The piece, which will end up somewhere between 9 and 16 feet tall when translated from maquette to finished monument, was chosen from among 10,000 submissions as part of a design competition. Sketches were traded with Apple executives who approved the final design, which features Jobs’ busts atop an imperfect pillar, binary digits, Cyrillic letters, and a Latin “A” sprouting from sculpture.

The finished piece in its own way captures the enigmatic genius of the man behind many of Apple’s greatest innovations, including the iPhone and iPad. While the final version awaits completion and delivery to Cupertino, its a fitting gift for a man that is sorely missed.
