iOS users warned of a dangerous security vulnerability are heeding the call, updating to iOS 7.0.6 at a brisk clip. Analytics firm Chitka found that as of Tuesday, February 25th, 25.9 percent of all iOS users had upgraded to the patched version of Apple’s mobile platform for iPhone and iPad.

The most recent update was issued last week in order to address a flaw in iOS that leaves devices vulnerable to “man-in-the-middle” style attacks when connected to public WiFi networks. The SSL bug makes it possible for a third party to intercept data transmission and siphon off data, which could include sensitive information like credit card numbers and personal identifiers. The bug is also present in OS X and has been addressed with an update to software version 10.9.2, which was issues earlier this week.

In other news, Chitka’s data reveals that just over 80 percent of iOS devices have been updated to Apple’s latest platform version. The number is comparable to but not the same as the figure reported by Apple’s developer site, which currently states that 82 percent of all devices have been updated to iOS 7 as of February 23. Chitka gathers its data based on North American web traffic figures while Apple uses global data, which explains the discrepancy.

For those that have not updated to iOS 7.0.6, doing so is highly recommended. The update can be accessed via the Settings menu under General > Software Update.
