Gmail for iOS has been updated to version 3.0, bringing along one long-sought feature that will be sure to please users. With the upgrade, Gmail now has background refresh enabled, meaning the app will download new email even when closed.

The app also takes advantage of new account features that will sign a user in across all Google services on an iOS device when signed-in to at least one. The new feature may require user downloading the upgrade to renew account credentials when first opening the app.

To take advantage of background refresh, users must be on iOS 7 and have notifications enabled for the Gmail app. The latest version can be downloaded for free from the App Store now.
