
Ever get trapped in an iMessage group thread and the notifications are driving you crazy? Apple has finally addressed one of users’ biggest gripes in iOS 8. An updated iMessage app now allows users to add and remove contacts from a thread, set ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode on a per thread basis, and even leave a thread should they wish.
The new features work to eliminate the locked-in nature of previous iMessage iterations. They also add some great new features, including an attachments gallery and easy Find My Friends location sharing. Simply choose to share location indefinitely or on a short-term basis with other members of a messaging thread.
Going one step further, iMessage now makes it easy to quickly send a voice or video message, mirroring functionality we have seen introduced in third-party apps like Instagram and Snapchat. iMessage isn’t quite as ethereal, but it makes for new and interesting ways to continue a conversation.
I’m sure we speak for quite a few iOS users when we say it’s about time many of these features debuted. But Apple may have gone above and beyond in this latest iMessage update.
